I love the concept of Idle Games
I really like those kind of games that, from time to time, resources must to be created or harvested - a process that sometimes can take a very long time.
So you step away from the game with the expectation of returning to it later to collect those resources. Some refer to them as Idle Games.
I find that very fascinating. I might expect that the last thing a game developer would've want was to drive its gamers away from the game. But in fact, this is what makes the game very engaging in the long term. It always keeps you longing from something inside the game and we just keep returning to it to collect, plan some tasks and get on with our lives. It's brilliant!
And one thing that is makes it interesting for me is that it reminds me a lot of project management, when you plan and delegate tasks and your are longing to "collect them" in the next meeting.
It's like this games are taking unusual hints from the real work life (as of things that take some time to do or achieve are more appreciated), as the opposite of gamification, that aims to bring the immediate perks of scores and rewards of gaming to the workplace.
Another positive thing about this games is that they usually don't require a lot of screen time, and nowadays that surely is a surplus.
