Life is random and full of uncertainties

Life is random and full of uncertainties. Yet we spend most of our time trying to control outcomes. We anticipate scenarios, plan ahead, and try to shape what comes next. Every day, we attempt to bring certainty to what is, by nature, uncertain.

The world’s complexity can be overwhelming. And yet, we usually handle it quite well. We create models, simplify what we see, identify patterns. We try to stay in control — because control gives us a sense of agency and self-determination.

But sometimes, we fall into the illusion that the world behaves as we perceive it. That what we see is what is. And when that illusion breaks, disillusion follows.

We feel a sense of injustice, of moral outrage — emotions grounded in values that are deeply human but completely alien to the laws of the universe.

As a survival mechanism, we’re naturally self-centered. We care most about ourselves and those close to us. And while this is entirely normal, it often distorts our view of the world and how we expect it to behave in our favor.

Life is random and full of uncertainties. But for the sake of our own evolution, we need hope. We need a vision of the future. And that vision is only possible if we hold expectations, aspirations — if we believe we can plan, project, and anticipate solutions.

Because if we truly believed everything was random, that nothing we did mattered, would we ever commit to anything?
