Progress is not linear

In one of my previous posts I was talking about progress and about feeling productive and why slow progress is better than no progress.

When in search for progress, consistency is key if you want to build something on the long term, and consistency is mostly a linear, incremental effort.

So we expect progress and results to also appear consistently.

But experience shows that progress rather comes in the form of spaced and sometimes steep steps (which is good, as it represents high rewards). The biggest thing here lies in the space between.

Like the music band that was about to quit until the last song turned into a hit on the radio, the youtuber that after years creating content, stuck with just a bunch of followers, after a guest participation in another youtuber video, sees his following duplicate in a matter of days, the athlete that is training the same move for months, and one day all of the sudden, sees herself performing easily that same move.

Stories like this are the norm, not the exception.

Reaching the next step it's mostly a matter of time and resilience (physical, mental and financial), specially int the starting phase, were the first results are crucial to validate everything done so far.

So the next time you're putting in the work and you don't see results coming at your way, remember that progress is not linear and that the next big step might just be ahead of you.
